Increase in Minorities in Younger Generation

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/05/us/05census.html?_r=1&hp

The article basically states that the young generation has a higher population of minorities than older generations. This means that there is now a greater cultural gap between the two generations, and also political and social differences as well. As a minority myself, this is pretty interesting news. The article had given a quote that stated, to summarize this development, that the suburbs used to mean a white family with two kids, a dog and a TV. However, “Now suburbia is a microcosm of America. It’s multiethnic and multiracial. It tells you where America is going."

I grew up in the suburbs, and I went to a grade school with a dominant population of Caucasian students. The only time I was completely surrounded by Asians was when my family used to go to this Korean American Presbyterian church that was a couple blocks away from where I live. The reason why...should be obvious. High school was more diverse, of course.

This is a pretty interesting development. I wonder (1) if there would be any significant political and/or social change over the years and (2) if there's a good possibility that soon minorities won't be called minorities anymore. Hmmmm....

As a side note, the article didn't include any images. So the image above is a picture of a part of my high school.
