US and China are currently two countries that are the biggest consumers of coal, and also the countries that are in dire need of a new power resource as coal is depleting. The article states the possibilities of US and China joining forces and working together on a greater level to find and gain that new power source. Right now, there are already joint companies for solar, wind, etc. energy. Of course, those sources have some problems as well.
