I just realized...

So I just remembered I can use my Mac to take photos from my collection/project so except something along those lines from me tomorrow!

Hmmm...

So I lost the SD card to my camera and I will be unable to upload any photos of how my project is coming along ... unfortunately ... however, instead, I will just lay out for you guys what I have as my collection and what I plan to do with it.

Since we have to do multiple posts, I will try to spread it out a little.

I guess I'll start with what my physical collection is ...

Before my grandmother died she hoarded an immense amount of random junk. Her house, located in the suburbs of Chicago near Portage Park, is stocked full of unopened boxes, appliances from the 50's and 60's, old clothing, antique furniture, etc. When I was looking around the house for something to collect, I happened across a few boxes containing all of the old letters my grandmother and grandfather sent to each other before they had my dad (old love letters, etc.) ... as well as old letters they sent to my dad when he was in college. All of the letters had "antique" looking stamps on them so I took the liberty of making a collection of them. I'm still finding stamps everyday ... and currently I primarily have old stamps from Poland, followed by US, Russia, Greece, and other miscellaneous ones. At first I thought of doing something with the stamps alone; but, upon further thought, I decided that I may find some way to tie the letters into the project as well.

I'll make another post tomorrow outlining what how I ideally plan on displaying them.

How 'bout some live action?



Jackie Chan vs. Benny "The Jet" Urquidez, a champion boxer well known for his speed. This is their first fight during a movie and they would fight again in another movie. From what I heard, Jackie Chan found The Jet super frustrating, since the boxer didn't know how to soften his hits. So all those punches are real. There's also a super cool scene where The Jet kicks at Jackie, he ducks, and the wind from the kick blows out a bunch of candles. That was real. No special effects or anything. This clip is part of my collection since I absolutely love action flicks, and it's also a great reference for action poses. A lot of Jackie Chan's fight scenes are really good examples of how one could incorporate surrounding objects into the scene (like that famous ladder fight).

Object 2

This monkey is nameless but I've loved him since the day I got him, I don't remember where he came from but I've had him forever. I used to sleep with him every night and I think that I did a show and tell with him once as well. This monkey toy will always have a place in my heart.

Well this is what i ate like 2 sec ago pizza mia from pizza hut. it was really good and delicious. and i think it would go great with my collection and will follow along with my theme . so yeah that pizza was good, but not better than Al's !

The Destino video I showed in class. I chose to have this a part of my collection, because (1) it's artsy (2) I found it to be a stunning and beautiful creation of the storyboards Salvador Dali and...um, the other guy whose name I can't read, created. It's like a painting come to life, and with the music combined, it really touched me with its somber story and surreal images.

A scene that most, if not all, of us recognize. The Beast's Disney death scene and Belle's confession of love that turned him back human. I love this video more than the actual scene, because it's such a great example of how actions speak louder than words. You don't know what they say, but by the music and their actions, you know what's happening. It's also great to see how they outlined the animation first (my favorite being Belle's rosy cheeks triangles).

The Last Unicorn is one of my favorite animated movies despite a lot of wrongs it has. It's such a childhood icon to me, for shaping my view on unicorns and fantasies. I was always drawn to darker themes. Seeing this scene later in my life, I cried, or at least teared up. Molly cries about her loss of innocence, the unicorn being the perfect example of a life that's gone. The scene is dark, the unicorn being this shining beacon of light in that darkness. It draws me in. I've always wanted to create a scene in a movie or something that's so emotionally distraught like this. Yes, this melodramatic, but here it works. I'm not sure how, and I'd like to figure out why.

I guess I talked too much. Eh.

4. And Every Place Shall Be My Native Home/5.God Is His Soul, Infinity His Goal

The Incredible String Band is this awesome band from the '60's. They're total hippies, living in communes , playing sitars, into mythology and Buddhist philosophy. Maya is an epic nine minute song with a wealth of poetic lyrics. Two of my collection come from this song. The first is "And every place shall be my native home". I love that line. I've been thinking a lot about what"home" is since coming to school. I think its very possible to feel at home where ever you are, as long as you feel at home with yourself. The second one is "God is his soul, infinity his goal". It's a triumphant declaration, one that I identify with.
